Vermont health insurance costs have been skyrocketing. Insurance premiums have risen 60-80% and out-of-pocket costs have doubled in just the past 6 years.
Now, Blue Cross Blue Shield and MVP want to raise rates for next year's plans by ANOTHER 16.3 and 12.6%, respectively. This comes after 38,000 Vermont residents have been kicked off of Medicaid in the past year - in the midst of floods - and forced to buy these expensive plans, or go uninsured.
In 2011 Vermont passed a universal, publicly financed healthcare system. If policymakers did their jobs and followed that mandate, we wouldn't be dealing with these outrageous rate hikes.
