Sandgate Community Table - Gathering This Saturday

Past event
Jul 27, 2024, 10 to 11 AM

Please join us this Saturday (10:00am) at the Sandgate Community Table (SCT) breakfast gathering.

We have a great guest speaker this month, Bill Budde, curator of the Russell Vermontiana Collection housed at the Martha Canfield Library. Bill will present on the history of the Carthusian Monastery on Mt. Equinox and the role of Dr. Joseph Davidson in its development. The Carthusian Order was founded in France by St. Bruno of Cologne in 1084. The monastery on Mt. Equinox was the first Carthusian house established in the Western Hemisphere. Dr. Davidson donated 7,000 acres, including 4,000 in Sandgate, for use of the order. Davidson also created Skyline Drive to allow access to the top of the mountain. We will review some of the rules governing the daily life of the monks, construction, and Dr. and Mrs. Davidson's role in preserving the natural beauty of Mt. Equinox.

Members of the public who recall the early days of the development are encouraged to attend and share their experiences.

All Sandgate residents are welcome and encouraged to participate in the monthly Sandgate Community Table gatherings. It's a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, make new friends and to learn about our community. We'll have yummy baked goods by our resident baker, Jessica Lewis Stevens, and other SCT attendees.

Please join us and encourage a neighbor to come too. See you Saturday!
