Ashworth Forest Block Walk
Sunday, July 21 at 10 AM
Join the Guilford Conservation Commission for the second of a series of walks on lands that Patti Smith highlights in our 2023 Natural Resources Inventory.
Meet at the farmhouse at 1136 Guilford Center Road. Park anywhere you like (including the lawn).
This walk will cover a section of town that is part of the 1869-acre "Ashworth Forest Block" and an active wildlife corridor in Guilford. The former Ashworth farm was a dairy farm up until the 1980s.
The walk will be about 2 miles with a 250-foot elevation. We will cross a small hay field, walk past the pond, and follow the trail to the top of the property, then return on the VELCO powerline right of way. The forest is made up of mature pine and hemlock with mixed hardwoods and is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
The landowner has captured lots of these animals on trail cameras, You can see some of them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liPbsfQSGPI&t=375s
