Friday Night Movie at the Williamsville Hall presents "Harold and Maude" (1971) on Friday, July 26 at 7:30 PM. This dramatic, dark, romantic comedy, directed by Hal Ashby, stars Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon. Although a commercial and critical flop when it was first released, it remains an enduring cult classic, has been ranked by the AFI as a top ten romantic comedy, and is on the National Film Registry. Harold is a young man who stages fake suicides, drives a hearse, and attends the funerals of people he does not know. His controlling mother desperately tries to arrange dates for him, but Harold meets and falls in love with Maude, a charming, eccentric 79-year-old. Their unusual romance is believable and touching as Maude helps Harold learn to enjoy life to its fullest. Refreshments will be served. Admission is by donation and will raise funds for Williamsville Hall. Motion Picture Rating (MPAA) rated PG. Running time: 91 mins.
