The Peace and Justice Center is delighted to honor the work of Migrant Justice, a Burlington-based organization dedicated to building the voice, capacity, and power of the migrant farmworker community and engaging community partners to organize for economic justice and human rights. An award will be presented at our Ed Everts Social Justice Award Ceremony and Fundraiser.

The evening will include a reading by Julia Alvarez, a writer of novels, essays, books for young readers, and poetry. You may be familiar with her novels, which include How The García Girls Lost Their Accents and In the Time of the Butterflies. She is offering an advance reading from a soon to be released collection of Vermont fiction, that directly relates to migrant workers.

This festive, celebratory event will also feature dancing to the joyful music of Alejandro y Grupo Sabor performing live. Grupo Sabor’s sound is a heady mixture of Latin music, jazz and funk infused with the infectious beat of traditional Afro-Dominican rhythms. Come party for a good cause!
