Hello neighbors,
Did you know there's an election on August 13?
It's the State Primary Election. This means we're each voting for candidates from one political party we'd like to represent us at the state level, in the State House and State Senate. The General Election with the winners from this election (plus the presidential election) will be on November 5. Learn more: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/CT/Elections
Want to learn about your candidates and ask questions directly to them?
Come to a candidate forum hosted by the Wards 2 & 3 Neighborhood Planning Assembly (NPA) this Thursday, July 11! It will be part of our regular NPA meeting, so we'll start with our famous community dinner from 5:30 to 6:30, followed by a few short agenda items at 6:30, including a brief update on CityPlace. The candidate forum will go from 7 to 8:30.
We are only holding forums for the contested races, and for districts that include parts of Wards 2 and/or 3. But the state districts are different from the city districts, so if you're reading this from another ward, there's a very good chance that at least one of them affects you too, and we'd love to have you join as well!
The contested races are (* = currently holding office):
VT House: Chittenden-17 District | Forum at 7pm
{ Includes Leddy Park and Ethan Allen Parkway to the north, Battery Park to the south, Park Street and the Intervale to the east, and the lake to the west. Map: https://legislature.vermont.gov/Documents/SmallMaps/2022/House/Chittenden-17.pdf }
This is the seat that Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak held in recent years until becoming mayor, so if you remember her being your rep, this is a race for you.
Candidates: Abbey Duke* (appointed in April) and Missa Aloisi
VT Senate: Chittenden Central District | Forum at 7:35pm
{ Includes all of Burlington north of Maple St, plus some other areas north of the country club. Map: https://legislature.vermont.gov/Documents/SmallMaps/2022/Senate/Chittenden-Central.pdf }
Candidates: Phil Baruth*, Martine Larocque Gulick*, Stewart Ledbetter, Tanya Vyhovsky*
______________
We'll wrap up around 8:30pm.
When it's finalized, the official agenda will be posted to our website (http://wards2and3npa.weebly.com/agenda.html) and to CivicClerk (https://burlingtonvt.portal.civicclerk.com/?category_id=73)
