Joe Wilkins was born and raised in eastern Montana, the site and subject of his memoir, The Mountain and the Fathers (2012). This memoir was named a 2012 Montana Book Award Honor Book and a 2013 Orion Book Award Finalist, and is the winner of the 2014 GLCA New Writers Award in Nonfiction. Wilkins is also an award-winning poet and has published two books of poetry, Killing the Murnion Dogs and Notes from the Journey West. He is the co-editor of The Far Edges of the Fourth Genre, an anthology about creative nonfiction, with Norwich University creative writing professor Sean Prentiss.
