Long ago, on a moonless night, a pirate ship, pursued by law and storm-tossed by a howling gale, ran aground on the Massachusetts coast. The buccaneers who slid down its listing hull and scrambled ashore disappeared into the woods, making their way northward and west with the small chests of treasure they could salvage. Legend has it that two of these casks are still buried somewhere around what is now Lake Paran. Here, the story begins...
