The Curtis Pond Dam Reconstruction Groundbreaking Ceremony is this Tuesday, 7/2, at 4:00 pm at the dam! We really hope you'll join us and help celebrate this incredible milestone!
The Curtis Pond Dam has been rated as a significant hazard and in poor condition for over 20 years. Over those decades, dozens of dedicated residents and elected officials have made every effort to reconstruct the dam and preserve Curtis Pond as a natural resource
for generations to come. Please come celebrate the culmination of decades of work by dozens of Calais residents and elected officials whose dedication to this issue have brought us to where we are today.
Don & Bev, aboard the Whammy Barge, will lead a flotilla from the North End of Curtis Pond, called together by a Scottish Bagpiper. The Flotilla will leave the north end at 3:15. Feel free to join the flotilla anywhere along the way with a goal of landing at the dam at 3:45 pm.
There will be speeches on the Blue Barn from 4:00 to 4:30 pm, followed by an informal CPA gathering. This will be a good time to chat with CPA members, dam engineers and the contractor himself to learn more about what to expect over the course of the summer. We'll have a table with construction blueprints to view, 2003 Men of Maple Corner Calendars for sale, and lots of informational handouts.
CPA board members, Select Board members, the project engineers from Dubois & King and Larry Hebert (our contractor) will all be around to answer questions and lay out a picture of what to expect for the summer.
Parking may be tight, please consider walking, biking, boating or carpooling! Please be sure to respect cones and signs and ensure cars are only parked on one side of each road.
We can't wait to celebrate with you all!
