Join local nature enthusiast Chuck Hulse to learn about the mysterious world of ancient plants, including introductions to the common (and uncommon) ferns, horsetails, and clubmosses of South Hero.
Not only are they cool to look at, did you know they are some of the oldest living plants to evolve on earth - up to about 410 million years ago! And though today most of them are small, during eras such as the Carboniferous, when the climate was much warmer and more humid, many of these plants would even reach heights of 100 ft tall!
At this event Chuck will also teach us what distinguishes such seedless, spore-based plants from more modern flowering plants, and help us appreciate their special characteristics which have helped them continue to thrive for so many millions of years.
