Mission Statement
The Disabled Access and Advocacy of the Rutland Area (DAARA) Committee's mission is to work towards more accessible communities for people with a disability in the Rutland County Area. It also aims to advocate on other important issues and to educate the general public about people with disabilities, including the issues that affect them and the programs/services in their support.
Some Accomplishments & Plans
• Successfully advocated for the installation of accessible parking spaces and automatic doors at area businesses and public buildings.
• Helped organize educational events in recognition of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Conducted outreach through local media, including appearance on a radio talk show.
• Provided consultation to a museum regarding accessibility of exhibits.
• Investigating the possibilities for creating accessible trails in the area.
• Educational outreach to area schools.
• Creating a program for PEG – TV.
Meetings
DAARA usually meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 10:30 am to noon via Zoom.
