The History of Wildlife in Vermont
Kim Royar, Special Assistant to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Commissioner

From early bounties on wolves, mountain lions, and bobcats, to the land clearing resulting from
the sheep boom in the early 1800's, changes in Vermont’s laws and landscape have had major
impacts on the State’s wildlife over the centuries. Kim Royar has been a wildlife biologist with
the Department of Fish and Wildlife for over 30 years. Her illustrated presentation will follow
the evolution of Vermont’s wildlife populations right up to the imminent 2014 hunting season. In
addition, Kim will bring a sample of wildlife pelts and skulls to help demonstrate some of the
various wildlife species that reside in Vermont. Sponsored by the Historical Society of
Windham County, the program is free, and all are welcome. More information on the Historical
Society of Windham County and the October 30 event can be found on the Historical Society’s
website: www.historicalsocietyofwindhamcounty.org. Or call (802) 348-7891 with any
questions.
