Walk Down Main Street with Ken Gottry (Please note lecture is AT the Historical Museum)

CAMBRIDGE, NY—Wednesday, June 19 at 7:00 pm, the Cambridge Historical Society and Museum's 2024 lecture series begins with—A Walk Down Main Street with village historian, Ken Gottry. The lecture takes place at the Historical Society and Museum at 12 Broad Street, Cambridge.

Gottry will guide the virtual "walk" based on his 1960's memories as well as the 1940's recollections of Janey Coulter. Coulter taught in Cambridge schools for 35 years—beginning in a one room school house in Ash Grove and ending in the Cambridge Union School. She was active in the local DAR, and kept a scrapbook from which her observations will contribute to this lecture.

The stories begin at Dorrs Corners (Rt. 313 & Main Street) and will continue westward, along Main Street. Observations will be shared to describe the buildings, people and history of Cambridge's past. Discover the place where a time capsule was found, "walk" past Jack Weller's restaurant (now My Shop Around the Corner) Arno Wilson's Philco TV store (now Hubbard Block Antiques) Peter Spurrs's furniture store (now Cambridge Art and Antiques Center), Bill's Restaurant (now Ed Levin Jewelry), Bell & Costello garage (now Black Dog Wines & Spirits), and more. Be ready to share your stories and memories as we "walk" down Main Street together!

Prior to the program the Cambridge Historical Society and Museum will offer a house tour at 6:00 pm. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments on the front porch.

The Cambridge Historical Society and Museum is an independent chartered, all volunteer, non-profit museum. This program is free with a suggested donation of $10.

The museum offers lectures every third Wednesday of the month through December. The next lecture takes place on July 17, Stay tuned!
