Greetings south end neighbors! At last month's NPA (Neighborhood Planning Assembly) meeting we spent time working in small groups unleashing our creative ideas about what we'd like to see in a Community Center. Your neighborhood "doing" assembly subgroup took those pieces of paper and also created an online survey for additional input. Here is a brief update on our work to date. A presentation (with pictures!) is on the agenda for our Thursday, June 20th NPA with plenty of time for discussion.

So far our work has focused in two areas: Taking all those ideas we generated at May's NPA meeting and beyond in the survey, and synthesizing them into a coherent whole. We were excited by the synergy that emerged from among those scribbles and bits, both paper and virtual - the work almost did itself. Our second focus was to begin the discussions with the partners, the people we will be working with to create our community center. These are the three land owners/developers (private, institutional and municipal) of the South End Innovation District (SEID) at least initially - namely Champlain College, Hula and the City of Burlington. Happily, the synergy continues! A Statement of Purpose for a Community Center emerged from the synthesizing discussions that can form the core of our negotiations as we move this project along. Together we can create something that truly reflects our growing and evolving south end. We are excited to present our work so far at the June 20th NPA.
