Hello neighbors,
The UVM Humanities Center, the UVM Political Science Club, and I invite Burlington residents, University of Vermont students and staff, and all those interested to join in the inaugural Mayor's Book Group discussion of "An Idea Whose Time Has Come: Two Presidents, Two Parties, and the Battle for the Civil Rights Act of 1964" by Todd S. Purdum. On Wednesday, November 12 from 5:00-6:30 pm at UVM's Billings North Lounge, I will be joined by Professors Emily Bernard and Alec Ewald, Fletcher Free Library Director Rubi Simon, and other special guests for a City-wide discussion of this engaging account of a pivotal moment in American history. The Humanities Center will purchase books for the first 200 participants and will provide snacks and cider for the event. Books are available now at the Fletcher Free Library - stop by to sign up for the book group and to pick up a copy! I look forward to seeing you for a fun evening and a lively exchange of ideas.
Warmly,
Miro
