SOUTH STREET ROAD CLOSURE / WATER SERVICE INTERRUPTION: TUES., JUNE 11, ALL DAY

WHAT: Road Closure Planned for Water Leak Repair

WHEN: Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 8:00am to 6:00pm

WHERE: From 9 South Street to 36 South Street, Bristol, VT

WHY: Water main leak repair in the middle of South Street. Barricades will be placed at 9 South Street at the intersection of Cain Hill Road and 36 South Street before the Lumber Mill. No through traffic will be permitted because the road will be cut open at the center to expose the waterline, find the waterline break, and make the needed repairs.

WATER INTERRUPTION: Once the break in the waterline is exposed, water system valves will be exercised to the off position and there will be no water to the area above and below this repair while the repair is being performed. This water shut off area could potentially include South Street below the bridge to the Mill. Cain Hill and Pump House Road could also be impacted. If the valves at the intersection near the bridge do not shut completely, the shut off could extend up South Street above the bridge to the light. Residents in the area should fill jugs, buckets, tubs, or other vessels in advance to have water for cooking, washing, or other uses during this time.

The water shut off may start as early as 9:00am and last for most of the day. Water service will be restored as soon as possible. Please note, during the shutdown and when water is restored, air, water, and sediment will need to be flushed out of the hydrants along this run. This should alleviate most of the air that enters the system. Customers may notice a bit of air and discoloration in the water once restored. If so, faucets should be run on cold water until the air is released. The screen from the faucet may also need to be removed, rinsed of any sediment, and placed back on. Running white laundry during this short period of time should be avoided.

ROAD DETOURS: Once repairs are completed and the dig is backfilled, the barricades will be removed and the road re-opened. Until then, please utilize upper South Street and Hewitt Road as temporary detours.
