Inspired by the book Freedom Dreams, The Black Radical Imagination by Robin D.G. Kelley, the Freedom Dreaming Creation workshop provides space to explore our relationships to the idea of freedom. Through conversation, activity, and artistic creation, we imagine environments that can exist beyond our current realities. For freedom dreaming, all you need is love and your imagination. The workshop is led by Interdisciplinary Artivist, Educator, and Warren resident janet e. dandridge. The workshop is designed for ages 14-adult; however, families with children as young as 8 may participate together.
This is part of the MRV Libraries day of celebration of Juneteenth. Officially observed yearly on June 19, Juneteenth is the newest federal holiday. However, it has long been celebrated in Black communities throughout the United States in commemoration of the true end of slavery on June 19, 1865. On that day, Union troops entered Galveston, Texas and delivered the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved people in the state of Texas were freed by executive decree.
