JULY 10 SUGAR IN THE PAN
Vermont Folklife Sugar in the Pan plays traditional music from New England, Québec, Maritime Canada, and beyond, featuring lively tunes that will have folks of all ages up & dancing! These fantastic teenage musicians with the Young Tradition Vermont Touring Group, Ari Glasser, Eleanor Freebern, Eli Glasser, Emma Taylor McCallum, and Winslow Solomon, offer creative and engaging arrangements for fiddles, 5-string banjo, the keyboard, and the harp. They have performed at the New World Festival in Randolph and the Young Tradition Festival in Burlington; toured Cape Breton in 2023 and Québec in 2024; and have entertained at various retirement communities and schools in Vermont.
JULY 17 SMOKEY NEWFIELD PROJECT
The Smokey Newfield Project decided that starting a band was a cheaper way to deal with their mid-life crises than therapy or buying convertibles. After joining forces in 2011 (thanks to their former keyboardist, Denise Puisto), SNP burst onto the local music scene in 2013 playing farmers' markets, private parties, local bars, restaurants, and fundraisers. SNP is known for their rich vocal harmonies and varied instrumentation featuring Bill Valliere, aka Smokey Newfield, on guitar, Cathy Cameron-Muscente on guitar and bass, Tom Chadwick on drums and Laura Chadwick on keyboard/melodica, violin, bass, mandolin, and guitar. They cover an eclectic mix of folk rock, classic rock, country, pop, and anything else that tickles their musical sensibilities.
JULY 24 MAMA TRIED
This fun, four-piece Americana band features Rebecca Padula's smokin' vocals, guitar, and ukulele; Linda Kallinger's on fiddle, mandolin, and harmonies; "Ukulele" Clare Innes on ukulele, banjo & vocals, and Kathy Mulligan holding down the baselines.
JULY 31 THE BUCK HOLLERS
The popular Buck Hollers Band returns to Mills Riverside Park with their eclectic mix of Americana, folk, country, R&B, rockabilly, rock-n-roll, newgrass, and Irish music. Mixed with a good dose of stage banter and comedy, you never know what's coming next! Dave Vallett's clean melodic acoustic guitar work, hot rockabilly electric sounds, and a little banjo mix with Steve White's rhythm guitar and sweet harmonica and Joel Snyder Jr's tight percussion. Local 'kids' Matt Parisi on bass and Cathy (Parisi) Weymouth on keyboard round out the group, which also features some nice acapella and four-part harmonies. A professionally engineered sound system blends it all together, spreading crisp, clear, and rich tones throughout the park.
