WindowDressers is a grassroots, volunteer-run nonprofit that brings people of all economic and social situations together to warm homes, lower heating bills, and reduce pollution. WindowDressers volunteers make low-cost Insulating Window Inserts that function as custom, interior storm windows.

The inserts let in all the sunlight and stop cold drafts. WindowDressers works with teams of volunteers across Northern New England as they coordinate local, pop-up events called Community Builds where the inserts are made.

Our Cooperative Build Model: Building Inserts = Building Community

For people who are experiencing financial hardship, WindowDressers offers up to 10 inserts per year for no-cost. For middle and high income homes and businesses, the price is a fraction of the cost of similar commercial products. We keep our insert prices exceptionally low through our cooperative model:
● Whether or not you are paying for your inserts, your participation at the Community Build where your inserts are made is an expected part of the cost of inserts.
● We ask all WindowDressers insert recipients to contribute one 4-hour shift for every 3-5 inserts that you order. For example: If you receive 10 inserts, please sign up for two 4-hour shifts.
● Jobs at a Community Build are easy to learn and accessible to a wide range of ability and mobility levels. Some jobs can be done seated. Participants have ranged in age from 8 years old to 90+.
● If you are unable to participate, please ask a family member or friend who can participate in your stead, or consider donating food for the Community Build.
● Community Builds are fun events and they foster a spirit of volunteerism, participation and connection.

Pricing and Payment:
If you have limited income, please ask the volunteers measuring your windows about our Special Rate pricing program, where we offer up to 10 inserts per season for no cost. Donations to support our Special Rate program are always welcome.

If you are paying for your inserts, you will be given the price at the end of your measuring appointment. Payment is due at the time of the measuring visit.

In Vermont, homeowners are eligible to receive up to a $100 rebate from the State of Vermont, as part of its weatherization initiative in fighting Climate Change.
