Vermont Humanities Talk - Before the Court of Heaven

Past event
Jun 10, 2024, 7 to 8 PM

I'd like to invite you to my upcoming Vermont Humanities talk at the Shelburne Town Hall on Mon. June 10th at 7 pm. This presentation is about my historical fiction BEFORE THE COURT OF HEAVEN, critical history that is a cautionary tale for today.

How Did Germany's Weimar Democracy Become the Third Reich?
Defeated, humiliated, and in chaos, Germany after World War I is imperiled by extreme polarization from leftist revolution to right-wing violence. In my presentation I recount the origins of the Third Reich through the story of Ernst Werner Techow, a member of the fascist para-military Free Corps and the murderous Organization C. He was recruited into a clandestine assassination network trying to bring down the fledgling Weimar democracy. Techow participated in the 1922 murder of Foreign Minister Walther Rathenau, the highest-ranking Jew in the Weimar Republic. While on trial for his life, an offer of forgiveness sets him on a complex journey of atonement and redemption.
A Vermont Humanities event co-hosted by Shelburne's Pierson Library. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Hope to see you there. Please share this announcement with others.
