Essex Rescue Open House
Volunteer Ambulance Service Welcomes the Public for Fun, Food & Information
ESSEX JUNCTION, VT, October 20, 2014 -- Essex Rescue is hosting a community open house Saturday, November 1 from 10am-2pm. The public is invited to visit our headquarters for refreshments, tours of our facility and vehicles and more!
Visitors will have access to explore our ambulances and equipment, with members on hand to answer questions and provide demonstrations. Fire trucks, police cars and other apparatus will be on display courtesy of our complementary emergency services partners -- Underhill Jericho Fire Department, Essex Fire Department, Essex Junction Fire Department, Westford Fire Department, Essex Police Department, Vermont State Police, Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department, Fletcher Allen Coordinated Transport (FACT) and others!
Throughout the event we will be offering free instruction in compression-only CPR. According to the American Heart Association, compression-only CPR can be as effective as conventional CPR for sudden cardiac arrest outside of the hospital; it can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival. It is an easy-to-learn method that can be taught in just minutes, requires no special equipment, and could help save a life.
Essex Rescue’s own Child Passenger Safety Technician will be on hand to perform free car seat and booster safety checks and child passenger safety information. Car seat checkups will include checking for recalls, your child's harness/seat belt fit, and the fit to the car. Essex Rescue EMTs will also provide free blood pressure screenings.
Check out video footage of our response to a real emergency. Learn about the Mountain Rescue program and opportunities. Learn about our First Responder program and how it allows us to respond quickly to emergencies anywhere in our service area. Chat with our EMTs about what it takes to be an Essex Rescue member and the rewards of volunteering.
Enjoy pancakes, popcorn, snacks and beverages. Meet our EMTs and learn about exciting opportunities!
