As you might know, the Goddard campus is now under contract to be sold to an unnamed private buyer. Best indications so far suggest the buyer is commercial property developer Patrick Malone, of Malone Properties.
To sample his previous work, visit the commercial through-way on the 302 between Barre and Montpelier.
The current Goddard president and board have completely lacked transparency in the sale process. They are privatizing the college grounds -- without any promise that the community organizations that currently operate on the campus can continue to operate there, without any level of involvement of or consultation with the Goddard community and alumni, and with no regard for the residents of Plainfield and surrounding towns.
Concerned residents and community groups are holding an event to shed light on the present state of affairs, and how the campus might be able to be saved for community-friendly and community-owned developments instead. Come down to the campus this Saturday for a community potluck, speakers, art, and music, and to help resist the privatization of the commons.
