As you might know, Goddard College in Plainfield is closing permanently and selling its campus. The campus is currently under contract to be sold to property developer Patrick Malone, of Malone Properties. To sample his work, please visit the commercial through-way on the 302 between Barre and Montpelier. The current Goddard president and Board of Trustees (only one of whom is based in Vermont) have completely lacked transparency around the sale, and are seeking to privatize the college's estate without a clear guarantee that local groups and projects there can continue to operate or any level of community and alumni involvement.
There is potential for the campus to be kept in the hands of the community in a way that would offer community-resiliency support reaching far beyond the town in Plainfield to neighboring communities.
Folks are having an event to try to shed some light on what's happening and how the campus might be able to be kept for community-friendly developments. Come on down for a community potluck, speakers, art, and some music and help resist the privatization of the commons.
