The School board's budget approval on May 21 of $35,381,396 for June 11 vote vs. failed budget of $35,957,401 does not show the commitment they expect of the taxpayers with 30-40% increases in their
Educational Taxes.
This budget will leave many voters with unreasonable increases and the community with no confidence in
the School board and Superintendents Office. At this point the School Board should reduce the budget with under a 15% increase. Budget increases are what we are hearing about all over Vermont and the Country. The next meeting is Tuesday May 28 at the Mt. Abe Library for all concerned ABOUT THE BUDGET.
Even now town Clerks need at least two weeks for absentee ballots.. Very difficult situation for all but I think we can do better. This will give you idea of the educational tax.
Bristol $1978 per $100,000 assessment
Monkton $1982 per $100,000 assessment
New Haven $1943 per $100,000 assessment
Starksboro $1428 per $100,000 assessment (lower rate as result of reappraisal)
Increasing taxes does not insure the best education for our students. Teaching Staff and those directly working with students is the key to quality education. This situation belongs to all voters.
