The Mad River Valley Anti-Racism Initiative (MRVARI) is a monthly discussion group that focuses on the ongoing, deeply rooted problem of racial injustice in our world. Please join us at the Village Meeting House (ground floor of Waitsfield church) this Sunday evening 5/19 from 6:30-8:00 pm. We're meeting on the third Sunday this month (as opposed to our usual 4th Sunday), due to the Memorial Day holiday.
If you're white, as I am, it's very possible that you really don't know much about systemic racism, even if you care, even if you've read lots of books about it and watched some great documentaries, even if you have Black friends or went to school in a multi-racial setting. It's easy to live around a problem like this, when one doesn't belong to a group that's targeted by it.
Most people care, but the privileged group doesn't always remember to stay awake! Let's stay awake. Let's talk about these questions, deepen our knowledge, and figure out how to lend a hand to make things better. The bottom line is, everyone is poisoned by injustice, the oppressed and the privileged alike. And everyone can learn more, do more.
These discussions are open to all. You don't need to have attended before. I hope to see you there!
Respectfully,
Wrenn Compere, facilitator
