May 22 Community Forum on Climate Resiliency
Town Office, 7pm
Panel discussion and Q&A with:
• Marian Wolz – Resilience and Adaptation Coordinator, Climate Action Office, VT Agency of Natural Resources
• Staci Pomeroy – Lead River Scientist, Rivers Program, VT Agency of Natural Resources
Central questions: Stronger storms, heat extremes, and increased rainfall and flooding are already happening here in Vermont. Much good work is underway across the state to reduce carbon emissions; however, with the impacts of climate change already upon us, resiliency and adaptation are critical – both now and in the near term!
• How should community members and local government plan for and adapt to this new reality?
• How do we minimize impacts, protect ourselves, and help neighbors in need?
This event is part of the Hinesburg Planning Commission's community engagement program around an update to the Hinesburg Town Plan. It follows a very successful community survey (over 500 responses!), in which "water quality" was ranked as the number one natural/cultural resource for Hinesburg to focus on over the next 5-10 years (Question #15). Perhaps more tellingly, survey respondents selected "stormwater control and flood resiliency" as a strongly needed new/improved municipal service – even if additional Town spending is required (Question #20).
