I'm writing to announce This Saturday May 18th from 9am-noon Will be our first trailwork day of the 2024 season for the Cambridge Community Forest! A raindate of Sunday the 19th at the same time – we'll make that decision on Friday if weather looks iffy.
Major tasks that we are looking to accomplish include:
• Clearing off the trails from winter blowdown
• Setting posts on the sensory trail for a story walk in partnership with the Cambridge Library
• Invasive species removal
• Beginning clearing and water bar work on an old forest road to allow for re-opening as a new trail
• Improving existing trail surface at problem spots
Clothing to wear & Tools to bring (if you have them & want to contribute)
• Longsleeved work clothing, work gloves, boots, insect repellents
• Pruners, loppers, handsaws
• Rakes (metal or plastic tine)
• Crowbar/rock pry bars
• Chainsaw and associated PPE (Only Game of Logging graduates or forestry professionals may volunteer on these tasks – let me know if you have any questions)
• Cordless or gas-powered leaf blowers
• Tools for grading rocky soils (mattocks, adze, grub hoes, tamping shovels)
