The Community Senior Center of Richmond, Huntington and Bolton is starting off the hiking season on Tuesday May 14th with an easy and varied trip to Hubbard Park, in Montpelier.
We'll start at the Richmond Park-and-Ride for the 8:21 am bus to Montpelier (last week for free fares). Upon arrival we'll wander through the Statehouse on our way to the Statehouse Trail. After climbing the stone tower (a priceless view of Vermont's own capitol and the mountain ranges beyond) we'll continue around the park and down Corse Street for a total of easy-moderate 2.5 miles. Last time we had time for lunch. Returning on the 12:04 (noon) bus.
We ask that you RSVP to Darryl at dsmith.vt.us@gmail.com. This way hike leaders can inform hikers of any last-minute changes.
Future hikes being planned:
May 21st: Carlene will guide hikers at the Little River State Park and Civilian Conservation Corps campsite, with a side trip to a beautiful waterfall. Fairly flat and about two miles in length - a leisurely walk - enjoy flowers, bird song, and history.
June 4th: Darryl will lead a different hike at Little River State Park: a 6 mile loop up the Stevenson Brook Trail and then down the Dalley Loop Trail. 'Moderate' due to length and 700' elevation gain. We'll pass by the sawmill site, numerous historical markers for cemeteries and homesteads, flora and lost fauna.
June 11th: John will guide us to the UVM Research Forest in Jericho - an easy walking hike.
