Back in the late spring of 1973 WGDR, Plainfield went on the air at 91.1 FM for the first time. 48 years later, the FCC approved the ownership transition from Goddard College to Central Vermont Community Radio in May of 2021. To celebrate 50 (51) years on the air for WGDR and three years of community ownership, we are coming together for a big weekend of celebrating as a community both on the air and in person at the station.
We'll be live and local, Friday, May 17-Sunday, May 19 all weekend long with special programming during each show and a few extra surprises along the way. Tune in to WGDR at 91.1 FM or on WGDH at 91.7 FM or from anywhere at http://wgdr.org.
We're also inviting the whole community to the station for a "Party at the Pratt," Saturday, May 18, 3-5pm. Come on down for live bluegrass music, great food, great company, station tours and more.
As part of this weekend, we're looking to raise $2,500 as a birthday "gift" for WGDR from 51 folks giving $51 each. This will support the ongoing needs and upgrades of a 51-year-old station! We've got matching donors and sponsors ready to match every dollar raised too, up to $3,000. Together, we could raise at least $5,100 to start the 51st year. Thanks to our sponsors: CVCR Board, an anonymous major donor, Onion River Campground, Washington Electric Coop, and Northfield Savings Bank.
