In 2023, the Calais Selectboard adopted the Vermont "Declaration of Inclusion", joining 143 other towns representing 76% of the state's population, to welcome all persons regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, age, disability, or socioeconomic status so that everyone can feel safe and welcome in our community.
 
An Inclusion Workgroup is being formed to help ensure the Town acts on these principles.
