There are three more Community Dinners left this semester at Sterling College! These dinners are every Friday night, with our final one happening on Tuesday May 14th - the same evening as our annual Wood & Art Show.
This Friday students in the Local Sustainable Food Systems Course (and three extra students taking part in our All-College Work Day!) will again be preparing a delicious and nutritious meal. The dinner runs from 4:30-6:00pm, is free and open to anyone in the greater Craftsbury area, and accommodates all diets, restrictions, and preferences.
As some of you may have noticed, our students have joined UVM, Middlebury, and other colleges across the United States in participating in a pro-Gaza encampment on the Sterling College campus. This encampment is a calm and peaceful protest, will have little affect on meal service - and I do encourage community members to say hello and chat with our students about this protest, and hear their perspectives as they advocate for a Free Gaza.
In solidarity with Palestine and our students, this week's meal will be centered around dishes from the Gaza Strip. Students will prepare Lamb and Beef Sumaghiyyeh with fresh chard from our garden, and lamb from the Sterling College Farm. This stew will be served with Za'atar spiced flatbread, fatteh-style rice, and lots of grilled veggies. Dessert will be Knafeh, a dish consisting of crispy layered pastry and sweet cheese, soaked in syrup.
Monetary Donations collected from this meal will go to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, specifically to this organization's Refugee Food Aid program, which directly facilitates getting much-needed food and supplies to families in Gaza. As always, we will also be accepting donations of house-hold items, books and clothing - with a specific request for mugs! Ours seem to keep walking off...
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
