Hello neighbors. I'm writing with an invitation.

I am a member of the Vermont Humanities Board of Directors, and The VT Humanities is one of the presenters of the Vermont Book Awards, our state's premier literary prize. The celebration where we reveal the winners is happening on May 4th in Montpelier and the finalists come from all over Vermont. Tickets are on sale now.

Vermont Book Award Celebration | Saturday May 4th | 7 pm
College Hall, Vermont College of Fine Arts
Montpelier, VT

This is a dessert and cocktail event, with a short program following. It's hosted by Vermont Humanities, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, so this is a particularly celebratory year for the Vermont Book Award.

The finalists were announced on Vermont Public's Morning Edition a couple of weeks ago. Here's how to buy tickets for the Vermont Book Award celebration so you can be there for the big reveal. Tickets are $35, or you can buy a special $100 ticket that also allows a full set of winning books to be donated to a library in need by the Vermont Department of Libraries.

Buy your tickets now. If you have the means, I highly encourage you to buy the $100 tickets that also purchase a set of winning books for a Vermont library. If you don't have the means, but you really want to be at the event, let me know and we'll see what we can work out – some discounted and free tickets are available thanks to generous supporters. Let's all support literature and the humanities in Vermont.

With only three days to go until the Vermont Book Awards, we're thrilled to announce a special keynote speaker - CNN national political correspondent Eva McKend! McKend, who is now known in Washington for her pointed questions to people in leadership, was an anchor at WCAX in Vermont from 2015-2018.

"In the first years of the prize, I announced the finalists on a live morning segment called Books over Breakfast, and Eva McKend was the anchor," said Miciah Bay Gault, who has been the coordinator of the prize since its 2015 inception. "Eva is a part of the history of this prize. It's so meaningful to have to her return to Vermont as our keynote speaker this year."

Another highlight of the Vermont Book Award celebration will be the unveiling of artwork by Vermont artist Trevor Corp, who was commissioned to create four awards for the evening, multimedia sculptures exploring the dynamic intersection of fine art, found art, functional art, and craft. Corp works and makes art at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson.

Join us on May 4 at College Hall on the Vermont College of Fine Arts Campus in Montpelier for a dessert reception and awards ceremony to announce the winning books. General admission tickets are just $35!
