Their daily routines are orchestrated under the watchful eyes of Nurse Ratched, who uses subtle emotional manipulation to keep her charges in line. Into this placid world steps R. P. McMurphy, a small-time criminal looking to spend the end of his sentence in the relative luxury of a mental hospital. But as the bullied patients rally around the iconoclastic newcomer, the conflict between his freewheeling ways and Ratched's white glove, iron fist approach erupts with a molten intensity that leaves none unscathed.
