Ranked Choice Voting for VT by LWV & SoS

Past event
May 1, 2024, 7 to 8:30 PM

Vermont Secretary of State Sarah Copeland Hanzas and the League of Women Voters of Vermont will co-host a two-part series of virtual forums to discuss Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). Interest has grown in RCV in the state legislature and among municipalities, interest groups, and voters. Because of this increased interest, the Secretary of State and the League hope these discussions will help inform the debate and raise the profile of this system of voting.

This is your opportunity to learn about Ranked Choice Voting before the Vermont legislature considers it again.

On Wednesday, May 1, from 7:00-8:30 pm on Zoom, Ryan Kirby from RCV Resource Center (https://www.rcvresources.org.) will present an RCV overview. He will explain the basics and benefits of Ranked Choice Voting and will run a mock election to familiarize participants with this voting system. You can vote, in advance, on either or both of the online mock ballots for an imaginary presidential lineup for 2028:

DEM:  https://app.rankedvote.co/rcvrc/mock-2028-dem-presidential-primary/vote

On Wednesday, May 8, from 7:00-8:30pm on Zoom, we offer a further discussion - RCV for Vermont: Impact, Considerations, & Opportunities. We will look at the details of administering and implementing RCV elections. Included will be a voter education and municipal officials' training. Brattleboro Town Clerk Hilary Francis and Burlington Assistant City Clerk Sarah Montgomery are the featured speakers.
