If you haven't heard of the choir before, here is more information: The group is comprised of stroke and traumatic brain injury survivors from Chittenden County and beyond who have expressive aphasia (difficulty talking or using language). Spouses, family members, UVM students studying speech-language pathology, rehabilitation professionals, and community volunteers participate as well. Because music is largely mediated by the undamaged right hemispheres of the brains of people with aphasia, they can sing and are often fluent while singing even if they have severe difficulty speaking or are nonverbal. My background in speech-language pathology and music enabled me to start the choir in 2014, and we were honored to receive the American Stroke Association's Stroke Hero Award for Outstanding Group in 2020.
Thank you very much for your support. Please let me know if you have any questions.
