Green Up Day at Hinesburg Town Common May 4 the 9:00- 12:00
Join neighbors and tree experts to learn about tree planting, planned sitework to address drainage and future community gathering space planned for the Town Common. Help create the Hinesburg Tree Team that will care for trees today and into the future.
Starting at 10:00 learn about the importance of all aspects of tree care from their roots to the crown. Marie Ambusk of TreesRoi and Nick Keirstead of Full Branch Tree Care will be there to explain the proper planting and pruning on young trees and how to maintain healthy older trees. The techniques they demonstrate will ensure that the trees planted on the Town Common and in our yards will have a long and healthy life.
Together with these workshops we will be placing stakes where about 50 trees will be planted over the next 2 years. We will learn what species of trees may be planted and why they were selected. The actual planting will begin this fall with volunteers and over the next few planting seasons as the site work is completed. Please be part of this Tree Team that can help plant and build the new Hinesburg Town Common.
The town was awarded a grant of $30,275 to support tree planting, pruning and workshops on the Town Common from the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program part of the Department of Forest Parks and Recreation. The grant covers the cost of the trees, planting amendments and tree canopy/ crown pruning and will need the support of volunteers of all ages and skills to do the planting.
Hope to see you all there and of course there will be refreshments. Come anytime during the morning.
