Vermont Philharmonic Spring Concert

Apr 28, 2024, 2 to 4 PM

The Vermont Philharmonic will present one of the country's top classical trumpet players in a pair of concerts titled "Trumpeting Spring" at 7:30 pm on Saturday, April 27, at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph, and at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 28, at the Barre Opera House, with Music Director Lou Kosma conducting.

The program's featured work is the Trumpet Concerto by Richard Stöhr, performed by Billy R. Hunter Jr., Principal Trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Stöhr was a successful composer and professor at the Vienna Academy of Music in the 1920s and 30s. The Vermont Philharmonic has previously featured the little-known composer in order to bring his works to light.

One of Vermont's prominent sopranos, Mary Bonhag, also joins the Vermont Philharmonic to perform Reflections on the Way, four songs by Vermont composer Erik Nielsen set to poems by David Budbill.

The program opens with Felix Mendelssohn's overture to Die schöne Melusine (The Fair Melusine).

Now in its 65th Season, the Vermont Philharmonic is Vermont's oldest community orchestra. Tickets ($25/adults, $20/seniors, $5/students) are available at the door or online at vermontphilharmonic.com.
