The Pawlett Historical Society is hosting a special speaker event, 1800 and Froze to Death, on Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Pawlet Town Hall. Vermont historian Howard Coffin will speak about a winter very dissimilar to the one we've just experienced. In fact, the winter of 1816 stretched throughout the year, with frosts every month, dark skies, and mysterious lights that caused a widespread belief that a higher power was displeased. In this talk, we will learn about this year of failed crops, scarce food, and religious revival. The talk is free and open to the public, and accessible to people with limited mobility.
