Speaker: Louise Prescott - Vintage Sewing Machines
When Louise was in high school, her sister found an old Singer 99k (in its original cabinet) at a flea market for $15 and simply couldn't pass it up. But she already owned a sewing machine, so she gave it to Louise. 45+ years later, Louise still uses that machine, and it works as well as the day it was made. When Louise started quilting about five years ago, a cousin whispered "Featherweight," so she bought one. Then another old Singer, then another and another and…you get the picture! She's not sure exactly how many she owns now, but virtually all of them were made before she was born. The thing about the old Singers is that they were engineered SO well, easy to use, and built to last. This talk will cover a little bit of sewing machine history and a brief walk through her collection of vintage and antique sewing machines. We may even get to test drive one or two of them.
