The Bennington County Choral Society (BCCS) will present their spring concert "Fauré remembered" on Sunday, April 28, at 3:00 PM, at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Main St., Bennington.
The concert concludes the BCCS 2023-2024 season (and celebrates 85 years of local choral performances) in grand style, with a 40-member chorus, organ, harp, 15-piece orchestra, and professional soloists, performed in the church's massive sanctuary, under the baton of BCCS Artistic Director Dr. Brian Dukeshier.
Included in the concert are three of Fauré's most notable compositions; Cantique de Jean Racine (a hymn), Pavane (a ceremonial Spanish dance), and his masterwork Requiem (a funeral mass).
To compliment the European theme of the day, a selection of chorus members will demonstrate the pavane dance. Following the concert, a patisserie (French-themed bake sale) will offer classic French pastries and baked goods for sale.
Gabriel Fauré was a gifted composer whose refined and gentle music influenced the course of modern French music. He well deserves to be remembered for his significant musical accomplishments.
Tickets are available at the door, through chorus members, or at https://www.benningtoncountychoralsociety.org/. Adult pre-sale $20 or at the door $25; college student with ID $10; children under age 18 $5.
