Family Folk Storytelling Matinee: Lost Nation Theater

Past event
Apr 27, 2024, 12:45 to 2 PM

Nation Theater, in Montpelier. He says:

"The last show I did there— 50 Years of Storytelling— was great, but mostly for adults, though with plenty tucked in to make kids happy. This one is all different material, mostly humorous, aimed at squarely at the kids. Though (as with most of my stuff) it should make my adult audiences happy too.

LNT will live-stream the show with three cameras and good sound, then keep it up for a week. I'll end up with the video. So come and help make a great kid's storytelling video for this post-CD era! Or, if you can't get to Montpelier, join us virtually!

I'll perform four traditional oral folk tales. Two of them, very short, I collected from schoolchildren around New England. One substantial tale takes about half of the show; I had to go on a kind of pilgrimage to get it from Adirondack folk source Sarah Cleveland. The fourth, of moderate length, Leanne and I reworked from sketchy 19th century notes by a traveller in India, by way of an early 20th century English headmaster; I have just learned to perform it as a solo. They're all really good; as far as I know nobody else does any of them. I present agelessly, as usual: old stuff respectfully interpreted by a modern person for today's audience.
Plus, I'll sing some songs.

12:45-- preshow music in the lobby with me and local fiddler Ruben Bennett.
1:00 Showtime!
2:00 sharp, the show lets out.

Bring the kids, bring the grandchildren. If they haven't seen me before they might take some convincing, but it's only an hour, and they will definitely love it! (I did a rousing test performance at a large K-5 elementary school on Friday; I have no doubts.)

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

If you're curious what the video will look like, here's a tale from the last show I did there.
