Community Dinner at Sterling College Friday Night

We're back!

The students from the Local Sustainable Food Systems course at Sterling College are whipping up dinner again this week in Dunbar Dining Hall. Dinner runs from 4:30pm-6:00pm and is free to anyone in the greater Craftsbury community. We will have two donation boxes out; one is for the Sterling Tuition Fund to directly support student financial aid, and the other is for household items, clothing and books - keep the treasures from your Spring cleaning coming!

This week's meal will be a collaboration with students in the Environmental Justice Beyond Borders course, and will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the explosion at the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, India which killed over 3,000 people instantly. Remaining toxic materials and chemical discharge from the accident have had unceasing health, environmental, and social impacts on the community at Bhopal to this day. Numerous civil society and humanitarian organizations have cited the disaster as "The Deadliest Corporate Massacre in World History," and continue to seek justice in legal, political, and social arenas. Students in the Environmental Justice Beyond Borders class will share information about this tragedy at dinner in order to raise awareness of this ongoing injustice for the people of Bhopal.

The menu for this week's dinner is Lamb Biryani: a layered rice dish featuring lamb raised here on the Sterling College Farm. This will be served with Saag Paneer, a cooked spinach dish with our seemingly never-ending supply of spinach (thank you Gwyneth and the garden team!) and fresh paneer made with milk from Sweet Rowen Farmstead, a local dairy farm and Sterling alumnus out of East Albany, Vermont. Homemade garlic naan and aloo gobi (think potatoes and cauliflower) will round out the meal. Dessert is kheer - a sweet and creamy spiced rice pudding, and our classic ice cream bar. As always, alternative options for alternative eaters will be available.

Dinner starts at 4:30pm, reach out if you have any questions - and we hope to see you there!
