A TRIPLE HEADER: OPENING RECEPTION -PAINTINGS BY RODRICA TILLEY, BRIEF QUARTERLY BUSINESS MEETING, AND TALK BY VETERINARIAN DR. CLYDE JOHNSON
The Historical Society will present a triple header with its spring quarterly meeting on Sunday, April 21 beginning at 1 pm. There will be an opening reception to display pastel landscape paintings by Rodrica Tilley followed by a business meeting and program by veterinarian Clyde Johnson plus several new exhibits.
The opening reception, beginning at 1 pm, will also provide an opportunity to hear from Rodrica Tilley about her experiences traveling the United States for her Fifty State Plein Air Project at 1:30 pm. Her work will be on display through June 16.
The quarterly meeting and program will start at 2 pm with a brief business session, followed by a talk by veterinarian Clyde Johnson about his long medical career in Dummerston. Dr. Johnson joined Dr. David Baldwin as a partner in the Vermont New Hampshire Veterinary Clinic in 1962 where his practice was largely in livestock and horses. He will have many stories to share. Those who know Clyde or remember his masterful moderating at Town Meeting, his wealth of jokes, his strong voice and commanding presence will want to attend!
New exhibits include a collection of photographs of farm and work animals from the past, (in anticipation of veterinarian Dr. Johnson's program), the Brook Farm Camp sign, donated by Richard Langlois, and photos and history of the Brook Farm Camp, a scythe and blades donated by Clai Claiborne, a collection of cookbooks from various Dummerston groups, plus a signature display of a few albums from our archives.
Dummerston Historical Society's Schoolhouse is located in Dummerston Center next to the Town Office. The public in invited, admission is free, but donations are welcome. The building is handicapped accessible, and we welcome you warmly. We hope to see you!! Information, Muriel:802-380-7525 or Gail: gailsvt@gmail.com.
