Dear Community,
Champlain Valley Union High School is very excited to announce that our inaugural Celebration of Culture event is taking place on May 2nd. Our intention is to create a space at CVU to recognize a diverse array of cultures in and outside of our community. It is important for us to celebrate both our unique cultural identities and the overarching aspects of humanity that connect us all.
For this event to be meaningful and authentic, we are inviting you to get involved! Every one of us is a global citizen and has a unique cultural heritage, and whether or not you feel a strong connection to a specific culture, you are welcome to take part. We embrace all representations of culture, but we have a few areas that we need your support in.
School Day Activities (here we are looking for ideas and support to provide our community with a diverse experience) :
The Art Gallery: Our goal is to curate a gallery that represents the beauty of global artwork. We will be displaying artwork from different cultures throughout the day within the school. Whether you are an artist who would like to share your pieces with our school community, or you have a recommendation for a famous print we should hang, please let us know.
The Music Cafe: Please send us recommendations for songs that represent your culture! We will be hosting a space where students can immerse themselves in global melodies and explore how music is integral to our societies.
Film Fest: Seeking any recommendations for short films!
Open Mic: Poems, spoken word, dance: whatever medium speaks to you we encourage you to come and share it! Let us know what you plan to share!
The Community POTLUCK:
This is the culminating event of the day, taking place from 6:00-8:00 PM at CVU. All community members are welcome! We are asking participants to bring a dish from their culture (dessert or entree) with a small written description containing a brief background of the dish and dietary information. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks—we will send out a more detailed message devoted to the potluck as the event approaches.
