All Plainfield Town Democrats are invited to caucus on Friday, April 19, at 5:00 PM at the Plainfield Town Hall Opera House, on the ground floor for the purpose of electing two delegates, and potentially two alternates, to the State Democratic Convention that will be held on May 18 at the Hilton Lake Champlain, in Burlington.
At the State Convention, our town's delegates will have the authority to elect 11 delegates to the National Convention and Vermont's National Committee Members of two different genders.
To be elected a delegate to the State Convention, candidates must meet two conditions: 1. they voted in the Democratic Primary on Town Meeting Day; and 2. they are a member of the Town Committee. The first condition must be affirmed on the honor system, as the state is not able to provide records in time; the second condition can be met by attending the caucus and getting voted in as a member at the caucus.
As no candidate other than Joe Biden received more than 15% of the primary vote, all delegates elected at the town level and state convention will be pledged to Joe Biden at the national convention.
This is the only business scheduled to come before the caucus, so we expect a short meeting. The next official act in the fall will be to nominate candidates for Justice of the Peace.
Dutifully yours,
Peter Youngbaer
Plainfield Town Democratic Chair
