Green Up Day in Lyndon

Past event
May 4, 2024, 8 AM to 3 PM

Did you know Green Up Day is uniquely a Vermont thing? Most states have Adopt A Highway but here we cover roads both great and small. The first Green Up back in 1970 revealed how big of a problem tossed beer bottles along our roads were and the state responded with a bottle bill. The rest is history or five cents in your pocket, however you view it. It was just the beginning of many other laws that protect the environment of our gorgeous green mountain state.

At Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District, we will be supporting the Lyndon area Green Up effort on Saturday May 4th. A dumpster will be set up near our parking lot on 224 Church St. The hope is those distinctive Green Up bags will only have true trash in them and things that can be recycled will come into the station. Tires and metal are good examples of things often found during a Green Up event that can be recycled. More event details are as follows:

- Green Up bags are available for pickup now until the event at the Lyndon Town Clerk's Office. The office hours are 8a-4:30p.

- Filled bags and other roadside debris can be brought to the NEKWMD for disposal in the Green Up dumpster from 8a-3p on 5/4. Please no afterhours dumping.

- Volunteers are needed for a 2hr shift at the dumpster on 5/4. Contact christian.thompson05850@gmail.com to sign up for a few hours or the whole day.

Wherever you live in Vermont I hope you take a few hours to Green Up with your community this May 4th. Take it further and make every day a Green Up day. A lot of us doing even a little bit will go a long way. Or as the Green Up poster for this year states, May the 4th be with you!
