Relocalizing VT, Thursday: The Secaucus 7 Return Again!

Past event
Apr 11, 2024, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on listener-supported Central Vermont Community Radio: The first film ever shown at a beloved central Vermont art house cinema is being screened again Monday, with two of the original cast. And the Waterbury LEAP energy fair is coming again on Saturday, with celebrations of and information on ways to trim energy costs and be part of a renewable future.

9:00 - 10:00 am
When Montpelier's beloved art house cinema, The Savoy Theater, opened in 1981, one of its first attractions was The Return of the Secaucus Seven. No, it's not a sequel, but one of the first major hits of the American independent film movement. Bruce MacDonald, one of the film's stars, made the Savoy's first guest appearance. The Savoy will host a special screening on Monday, April 15 at 7:00. Bruce MacDonald will be back to discuss the film, this time joined by another cast member, Gordon Clapp.

Savoy co-founder Rick Winston will moderate a Q&A following the screening, and he'll be with us on the air to talk about why this film is important—and how it relates to the later, better-known film with a similar theme, The Big Chill.

Waterbury LEAP (Local Energy Action Partnership) is holding its annual energy fair this Saturday, April 13, 9 am to 2 pm. Duncan McDougall will tell us why the LEAP Energy Fair has grown into Vermont's largest energy fair, how many electric vehicles will be there to test, what the hottest topics for green energy in Vermont homes are today, and more.
