Join Outright Vermont, the Waterbury Public Library, the Mad River Valley Libraries, and the Harwood Union High School Library for a multigenerational discussion of the Vermont Reads 2023-24 book selection, "Last Night at the Telegraph Club" by Malinda Lo, at the Harwood Union High School Library at 5:30 PM on Monday evening, April 15th. The discussion will be facilitated by Outright Vermont, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ youth in Vermont.

This coming-of-age novel is suggested for ages 14-adult. In the book, teenager Lily Hu is fully immersed in the life and culture of San Francisco's Chinatown, home to Chinese immigrant families like hers. But as she comes of age in the 1950s, her passion for rockets and space exploration is matched by her curiosity about the Telegraph Club, located in a neighboring part of the city her parents have asked her to avoid. Lily and her new friend, Kathleen find their interest in each other growing despite the very real danger faced by two girls falling in love in 1954.

All are welcome to join in the discussion of LGBTQ+ youth, finding community, and how the lessons from a book set in the 1950s are relevant today. Copies of the book are available to check out at the front desk.
