Are we being treated fairly by health insurers? If you find that deductibles, co-pays, the need to hunt and pay for out-of-network providers, and pay montly premiums is breaking the budget, you're invited to share your experiences with others Saturday at the Huber Building, 80 Main Street, Springfield. Consider the folowing facts:
In 2021, the government paid $361 billion to private insurers in the Medicare Advantage plans. $54.2 billion of this was set aside for their "administrative expenses." Had that $361 billion been applied through traditional Medicare rather than the private sector, only $7.2 billion would have gone to administrative expenses, and we would not have been denied $47 billion worth of medical treatment.
Now, only two years later, our Medicare Advantage plans are denying us at least another $83 billion in services: thanks to the insurance companies' deliberate overbilling of the government. Our tax dollars are being used to pay them to under-serve and overbill us.
