In anticipation of the Great, Northeastern Eclipse, on April 8, school will be dismissed at 11:40, and children are invited to come to the Library on the bus. There we will have snack and do some solar chalk art, or start making and testing solar eclipse viewers, or make some sun protection for UV critters. Please let us know if your child plans to attend so we can be prepared. Write a note to Renee giving permission for your child to ride the bus.
At about 2 PM we'll move over to Broad Brook Community Center and invite the community to join us. We'll bring the telescope with a sun filter, all of our solar viewing apparatus, eclipse viewing glasses and the popcorn machine. If you'd like, bring a snack to share. The eclipse begins at 2:13, and will peak at 3:24. If you're not intending to come view with your child, please pick him /her up by 4 PM.
We plan to have a computer and projector to view the total eclipse from Burlington or Texas.
The Library will have certified eye protection for all who attend. In addition we are distributing a limited number of solar glasses at the Library. If you're not planning to be at the BBCC event, stop in and request a pair. If you already have an undamaged pair, please bring them.
If it's cloudy or rainy, there will be plenty of live streams from places where the sun always shines. Try NASA or https://www.exploratorium.edu/eclipse for example. And, if the weather makes viewing impossible, the next total eclipse in Guilford will be May 1, 2079.
